Birthday Celebration Fit For The Queen

A living embodiment of Britain’s modern history and the longest ruling monarch – Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II completes nine decades of her life on April 21, 2016. Being the most influential person in the world, Queen Elizabeth II has witnessed some of the most horrific and proud moments of the century. Last fall Britain celebrated the longest reigning monarch and the most beloved as well. If you weren’t party to the celebration last year, perhaps a visit to Britannia should give you an idea of how jubilant an occasion it is for the British. The birthday celebration will be quite a spectacular series of events of 2016 and will be held during April, May and June. We have curated a list of hotels in London and Windsor that are either Royal Warrant holders or have received the Queen as their guest during her reign. This makes them the most suitable venues to offer a birthday celebration fit for a queen.

April : Though the birthday of the monarch falls in April there will be no public ceremonies or events held at either of the Royal residences. The royal family will visit Windsor Castle their official residence on the day to unveil the four-mile Queen’s Walk at the foot of Castle Hill. The walk connects 63 points of interest in Windsor representing her reign. Though you could meet the queen on the day and what a wonderful opportunity that would be to wish her personally? You’d have to camp well in advance to get the best spots. However if your glam avatar doesn’t allow you such adventures we have a select few venues you could enjoy a ceremonious lunch or Afternoon Tea while toasting to the Queen’s health.

May: The Royal Windsor Horse Show is the formal invitation to the first of the two parties to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday. The event will be held at Windsor Castle on 12- 15 May 2016. It will be a testimony to her lifelong commitment to the Commonwealth, international affairs and her obvious love for horses. We all know the queen loves horses and there will be 900 of them in the parade. The 90-minute pageantry will showcase a journey from birth to the coronation and the diamond jubilee to the longest reign in the history of England. There will be actors, performers, dancers and will have 1500 participants from across the world and the United Kingdom to congratulate the monarch.

Following the long-standing tradition this year too, the Queen’s birthday will be celebrated with the public in June. The event is known as Trooping the Colour and is the perfect display of British pomp and pageantry. The reason to celebrate in June owes largely to the time of the year as they say ‘ there’s nothing like an English summer’. On 11 June, 2016 the Queen and the members of the royal family will leave Buckingham Palace in carriages through the Mall arriving at the House of Guards parade near Whitehall. On the eve of the event, you can stay at the Royal Warrant holder for hospitality services for the weekend.

Being the closest luxury hotel to Buckingham Palace, it was the hotel of choice for the Duchess of Cambridge before the royal wedding. However this century old English hotel has been playing host to the royal family and their guests for over decades including the coronation ceremony of Her Majesty The Queen. In 2013 it was honoured by appointment of the Royal Warrant for hospitality services to HM The Queen.

To celebrate The Queen’s 90th birthday, The Goring’s award winning pastry chefs have created a special afternoon tea menu in her honour that includes of a golden orb, choux crown and Her Majesty’s favourite fruit cake jam-packed with juicy raisins, sultanas and cherries which have been marinated in a heady combination of rum, cognac and brandy. There is a Chouzx Bun inspired by HM’s image filled with vanilla butter cream, rose flavoured creme chiboust topped with fluffy pastry crown and a crimson rose petal robe. The Queen’s 90th Birthday Afternoon Tea will be offered through April to July to celebrate this milestone in the life of the monarch. The indulgence continues with The Goring’s own twist on The Queen Elizabeth Cake, which was originally made for HM The Queen’s coronation in 1953. A dense sponge bursting with dates and usually covered in desiccated coconut, this special version is topped with a light coconut mousse, giving the cake a new texture that adds to the decadent flavour. Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th Birthday Afternoon Tea, at this impeccably English hotel, is not complete without sandwiches in an abundance of flavours, from refreshing cucumber and mint, smoked salmon and horseradish, to honey glazed ham and grainy mustard and a rather fitting coronation chicken.

David Morgan-Hewitt, MD of The Goring shared his views with us, “The afternoon tea has been created as an affectionate nod to Her Majesty’s upcoming birthday  – a creative spin on the many iconic images that we associate with The Queen:  her crown, her sceptre and her orb – accompanied by classic English cakes and sandwiches, including The Queen Elizabeth Cake, which was originally made for HM The Queen’s coronation in 1953.  We think that our regular guests will really enjoy this patriotic and smile-making take on our popular afternoon tea.”

The luxury hotel which is a shining example of quintessential English hospitality has the perfect weekend package for a Royal Summer. The package is well created to suit the weekend itinerary if you are attending Horse Guards Parade or just enjoying the London revelry. The package includes top seats to Beating Retreat at Horse Guards Parade and a special edition of the afternoon tea in honour of the Queen. The Mall is a stone throw away from The Goring if you wish to get a glimpse of the glorious Trooping the Colour parade.
